Barely has the Christmas fairy dust settled, and we are already upon our next ‘emotive’ holiday. Many people label this day as a mere money-spinner from the greeting card business, supported by various other greedy businesses. And yet, even as people say this, many can’t help but use this day as a lens through which to view their lives. Past, present and (as if it were possible) future, and take stock of what they haven’t got. Its like the anti Thanksgiving holiday!
Many Prominent and popular self-help authors such as Rhonda Byrne, Esther & Jerry Hicks and Napoleon Hill are huge advocates of positive affirmations. And yet, do they really work? Some of you may want to zealously defend the effectiveness of the affirmations you regularly recite from post-its on your bathroom mirror. And some of you might be thinking, “What the hell is an affirmation?”
About this blog!
I don't think it’s healthy for people to believe that counsellors and psychologists are perfect. We are people too! To show you that you are not alone in your procrastination, botched diets, lost tempers, problematic behaviours, relationship issues, bad habits, emotional meltdowns and wardrobe tantrums (deep breath) . . . I'll be looking at myself through a pretty candid lens throughout this blog. I'll be working on changing myself for the better and, hopefully, you'll join me for the ride! Not only will you learn the most effective therapeutic techniques but also that although we professionals don't always have our S*** together, it's what we do when it hits the fan that counts!
